How to get advice

There are a number of ways in which you can get advice from Argyll and Bute CAB.

Advice Online

If you need advice or want to know more about your rights, try looking online. Adviceguide is produced by Citizens Advice and Citizens Advice Scotland and is an excellent self-help website.

When you click on Adviceguide this opens in a new window. There is a menu list down the left-hand side of the page plus on the right-hand side there are drop down boxes for Frequently Asked Questions and Factsheets on various topics.

If you can’t find what you’re looking for in Adviceguide, want further information or would like to speak to a trained adviser, contact us by phone or email.

Advice by email

You can email us your enquiry at info@abcab.casonline.org.uk

What to send us

When you write an email asking for advice or information, try to explain your situation clearly, and include as much relevant information as possible. For example, it may help to include details such as your age, how many children you have, and who you live with. This will help our advisers to find the best solution to your problem more quickly.

What happens next

An acknowledgment of receipt of your email will be sent to you. Our volunteers will aim to reply within three to five working days.

Advice by phone

If you need immediate advice then you can telephone our office during opening hours (Mon – Fri 10am-4pm) on 01546 605 550.

Alternatively, you can call Citizens Advice Direct on 0808 800 9060 (Mon-Fri 9am-8pm, Sat 10am-2pm). Citizens Advice Direct is a seperate charity and part of the Scottish CAB Service. It provides free, confidential, impartial and independent telephone advice.

Advice in person

Drop in sessions

We operate a drop-in service at our main office in Lochgilphead. This operates Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 10:00 – 13:00 and 14:00 – 16:00.

We offer an appointment service at our office extension in Helensburgh, based at 65-67 West Princes Street. Please phone 01436 679 111 or 01436 670 006 to arrange an appointment on the following days;

Mondays 10:00 – 13:00 and 14:00 – 16:00
Tuesdays 09:00 – 13:00
Fridays 10:00 – 13:00 and 14:00 – 16:00

We operate a drop-in service in our Dunoon Office.  This operates Monday to Wednesday from 10am until 1pm and 2pm until 4pm.

Outreach sessions – by appointment only

These sessions are held in Jobcentre Plus offices.

Outreach sessions take place as follows:

  • Campbeltown – 1st Wednesday of every month
  • Oban – Last Thursday of every month

If you would like help managing your money better, make a free face to face appointment with the Money Advice Service by calling 01546 605 556 or by emailing info@abcab.casonline.org.uk

If you have mortgage or debt arrears, you could use our Housing Debt/Money Advice project, funded by the Scottish Legal Aid Board. Call 01546 605 553 to speak to our specialist advisers or email info@abcab.casonline.org.uk
